DCU Alumni Awardee Lucy Nugent

Lucy Nugent has just celebrated five years as Chief Executive Officer at Tallaght University Hospital.

Lucy graduated from her Nursing Studies at DCU in 2003 and over the following decade she worked in a number of roles as a registered general and children’s nurse in the Children’s University Hospital Temple Street progressing to the role of Clinical & Patient Services Manager.

She then moved from a hospital centred role into a sector wide one with the Health Service Executive as Head of Quality Assurance & Risk Management in their Acute Hospitals Division.  

In 2014 she moved back into Hospital management joining her current employer as Chief Operations Officer before being made Deputy CEO in 2016 and then acceding to her current role in January 2019. 

In addition to maintaining a strong commitment to continuous professional development through further education, Lucy has engaged widely with and contributed strongly to a number of professional bodies and fora in her sector.

She is a Past President of the Health Management Institute of Ireland, representing it on several committees of the European Association of Hospital Managers and the International Hospital Federation.  She is the current President of the European Association of Hospital Managers -  the first female to hold this position in its 53 year history. 

Lucy is also a Director of South Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Operation Smile Ireland.
